The Story of Brigid's Cross
Brigid’s Cross takes it's name from Ireland’s most well-known female patron saint, St. Brigid of Kildare. Also known as Mary Of The Gael, St. Brigid is widely known as the patron saint of agriculture, farmers and fishermen. One of the most readily recognized emblems associated with St. Brigid is the woven rush cross, traditionally made from river reeds. This woven cross is hung over doorways and gifted to families on the first day of spring as a protection for hearth and home. St. Brigid’s patron saint day is February 1st . On that day at the pub we do our best to summon Brigid to perform her most famous miracle turning water into ale! The staff will also patiently teach those who wish how to weave their own crosses for their homes. What better patron saint could a neighborhood pub have but one associated with feeding the hungry, protecting the family, and turning water into beer? Whatever your persuasion, we think you will find comfort in the food, a bit of respite, and maybe even a little religion in every pint!
